Group Work

(Mixture of photos from the group)

Over the time that we gave been doing this assigned roles of who was doing what became an issue as occasionally jobs did in fact cross over making some areas overcrowded with people. I personally was in charge of editing the footage into a piece, this also meant that in post production I had to go out and get extra sounds to add in. Furthermore I had other side jobs like music searching, filming and prop hunting. Gaby had the main task of Directing the piece, occasionally filming like myself, storyboarding. Sasha and Joe were mainly acting, they also both helped in the search for music, and Joe decided the location and helped include props. Overall though there have been times where there was difficulty in who was doing what as jobs were assigned all over the place, but it came to ur point where we came together and planned what each of our primary tasks were so that the piece would be more efficiently produced.

Gaby and Sasha went to film in laverstock  on the hills then at the graveyards by the college, while myself and Joe remained  at college working with what we had and researching more so Gaby and Sasha had more information to aid our group work flow. Despite the group separation it was still easy to communicate with the entire group and share resources and ideas through social networks and educational collaborative platforms.

Automated Dialogue Replacement – ADR

For the ADR, we borrowed a microphone from a fellow class mate and used it to re record the audio of what Joe’s dad says in the original footage, which is: ‘I really wouldn’t be out after dark’. As it was more difficult to get a hold of Joe’s dad to record in the original voice, we used Mr Eno’s voice instead. We used software called audacity which is free open source audio recording and editing software. The reason we did this is so the vocal audio is clearer as before in the raw footage it was muffled by the car noise.

Group meeting notes /to do list/

Colour correction

Swap field shots around

Fade in to the graveyard scenes

Keep the moon shot

Use ADR to re record the voice of the car driver and what he says, and other sounds like the car running so it can be added in post.

Bad typography for the current edit, change it to something more suiting to the genre.

Cross dissolves instead of other cuts that we still have, change the ones specified

Don’t use cuts over a still frame but do on moving image

Cuts in the graveyard are fine though due to use of zooming effects, it provides the idea of approaching closer to something to the audience.

Map in the background is fine and looks great

Slow down the clip speed of the shoe with the blood dripping on it

Remove the shed shot

Most recent edit

In this edit we didn’t use cuts that much, fades were used more as it suited better to the frames than it did with straight cuts, the piece flowed better with fades as continuity seemed better. Color correction changes were made as sky colours were random shades of blue before but now they are similar from frame to frame. Admittedly after rendering it seemed to dark so that is something to note for the next edit. Most importantly the music was in this edit so the piece flowed better, and even some fades unintentionally matched sound changes in the music, meaning that at some points in the edit, changes in sound will reflect the mood and seriousness in that shot. Finally the other additions are the title at the end and the Rorschach tests we did were scanned and included in the edit as additional overlays, as they added an artistic essence to the piece.

Search for music

The site which we got our music from

Despite already nearly completing the edit, we were yet to find a song for the piece, after great struggle, we found a song from the site above which suited the genre and feel of the piece. The soundtrack in general builds suspense leaving the viewer waiting for the drop of the action, hence interesting the viewer in the piece.
